Founded in 1989, Chiron Behring has been at the forefront of manufacturing top-quality, new-generation rabies vaccines in India, serving the global community with unwavering commitment. Our flagship product, Rabipur, has been a trusted anti-rabies vaccine for over 30 years, saving nearly 20 million lives worldwide.

Rabipur’s legacy is backed by extensive scientific validation. With over 6,000 subjects in over 25 clinical trials and 25 published studies, it remains the only rabies vaccine globally with such a comprehensive data package.

In 2019, while many companies hesitated due to ageing facilities and branding challenges, we focused on what truly matters: the product, technology, knowledge, and expertise. This dedication led to the establishment of Chirorab, enabling a successful transition from Rabipur and securing a strong presence in a competitive market with approximately 35-40% market share.

Based in Gujarat, India, we pride ourselves on maintaining cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities and high-technology jobs. Our production capacity has nearly doubled from 8 million doses per year (MDS) to 15 million MDS, positioning us as one of India’s largest rabies vaccine manufacturers.

People with a compromised immune system

If you/your child has an increased risk of rabies infection because your immune system is not working correctly, you/your child will need five or six doses (each of 1.0 ml) of rabies vaccine after contact with a rabid or suspected rabid animal. Vaccination is given in combination with local treatment of the wound and rabies immunoglobulin.

If six doses are used, the first two are given as soon as possible after the contact, and then single doses are given on days 3, 7, 14 and 28 after the first dose.

If five doses are used, the first dose is given as soon as possible after the contact, and the others are given on days 3, 7, 14 and 28 after the first dose.

It may also be necessary for you/your child to have blood tests to measure the amount of antibodies to the rabies virus in your/your child’s blood so that extra vaccine doses can be given if needed. Your doctor will explain what needs to be done and tell you when to attend extra tests or doses.
